Here's the text (Psalm 24:3-5): " Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. We're going to focus in this hour on three verses in the middle of a psalm of triumph about Israel's Messiah and king. The Targum seems to take in both the writing of the text and the marginal reading, as it often does, and renders the words, "who hath not sworn in vain, to the condemnation of his soul" though sometimes to his own disadvantage, yet not to the hurt of others see ( Psalms 15:4 ) it follows,īy bearing false witness against any man or by cheating him out of his substance through a false oath.į7 ( wvpn avn al) "non inhiat, aut intentus est", Vatablus, Amama so Gejerus, Michaelis.į9 "Animam meam", Montanus, Vatablus, Hillerus.į11 Jarchi, Aben Ezra, Kimchi, & Ben Melech in loc.I've chosen a text from Psalm 24, and it is a great one, reminding us that no one can stand before the Lord without clean hands and a pure heart. The "Keri", or marginal reading, according to the points, is, "who hath not lifted up my soul to vanity" F9 that is, has not taken the name of God in vain, or swore falsely by his name his soul being put for his name or himself and by which he is said sometimes to swear, ( Jeremiah 51:14 ) ( Amos 6:8 ) and this sense the Jewish interpreters F11 generally give into. Or "set his heart upon", and desired vain things, as the phrase is sometimes used, ( Deuteronomy 24:15 ) ( Jeremiah 22:27 ) that is, the vain things of this world as the riches, honours, pleasures, and profits of it or has not served other gods, the idols of the Gentiles, which are lying vanities, but has lifted up his soul to God, and served him only: or "who hath not received his soul in vain" F8 from the hands of God, but loves him with all his soul, believes with the heart in Christ for righteousness, being sanctified by the Spirit of God and so the desire of his soul is to his name, and the remembrance of him. ![]() ![]() ![]() Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity Though "clean hands" are mentioned first, as being more obvious to view, and better known, and more subject to the cognizance and observation of others yet a "pure heart" is first in being and in order from whence cleanness of hands, when right and truth springs: no man has a pure heart naturally and of himself: the heart is desperately wicked the imagination of the thoughts of it is evil continually the mind and conscience are defiled with sin nor can any man make his heart clean, or say he is pure from sin but it is God that creates a clean heart, and renews a right spirit within men, and purifies the heart by faith, which is led to the blood of sprinkling, which purges the conscience, and cleanseth it from all sin and from this purity of heart flows purity of life and conversation, signified by "clean hands" the hand being the instrument of action, holy actions, or good works, performed from a principle of grace, are meant the phrase is expressive of a holy, harmless, and innocent conversation, washing the hands being used to denote innocence, ( Matthew 27:24 ) ( Psalms 26:6 ) ( 73:13 ) not a conversation entirely free from sin, nor by which a man is justified before God for though he wash his hands ever so clean, they will not be pure in his sight, and will need washing in the blood of the Lamb but it denotes a conversation upright in general, and declares a man righteous in the sight of men, and distinguishes him from one of a dissolute life, whose hands are full of blood, and defiled with sin ![]() He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart ![]()

The statute most commonly preempting pet restrictions is the Fair Housing Act (“FHA”), which prohibits discrimination in housing based on disability (among other classes) and requires “ reasonable accommodation” of disabled persons. And when that happens, the latter always takes precedence. No matter how well-drafted the restriction is, situations are likely to arise in which enforcement potentially conflicts with federal and state law. Moreover, by writing the exemption to expire upon transfer of the property or when the member no longer owns the non-compliant animal, the exemption clause can gradually phase out until the restriction applies to all members.įederal and State Exceptions to Pet Restrictions. When adopting new pet restrictions, associations are well-advised to include a clause expressly exempting members from keeping non-compliant pets before the effective date of the amendment.Īlong with promoting fairness to members, exemption clauses also protect the board by preempting future waiver claims based on non-enforcement against exempted residents. Both theories are rooted in the principle that a person should not be punished for engaging in an act that was not against the rules when it occurred. The legal theory of “grandfathering” is similar to the ban on ex post facto laws included in Article I of the U.S. The statute disallows enforcement of a newly-enacted pet restriction against an owner whose pet was previously compliant. Community Housing Improvement System & Planning Assn., 171 Cal.App.4th 1356, 1380 (2009).Ĭalifornia’s legislature codified an exception concerning HOA pet restrictions at Cal. Then, if the restriction is later challenged, a judge might decide that, based upon the prior non-enforcement, the association has abandoned its right to enforce the restriction. Moreover, if the board’s enforcement is arbitrary or capricious, the board is implicitly saying that the purpose is not all that important. The idea is that every covenant must serve a purpose. If a board enforces a restriction sporadically – or gives board-members or their friends a pass – the association risks waiving the right to enforce the restriction in the future. With any restriction or covenant, including pet restrictions, association boards should strive for uniform and even enforcement. If the member refuses to comply with a court order, the judge can direct the sheriff to enforce it and hold the member in contempt, which can result in a fine or even jail time. With pet restrictions, this usually means an order directing the member to remove the animal from the development. If necessary, the board can file a civil lawsuit requesting injunctive relief against the nonconforming member. Associations can still adopt restrictions on breed, size, number, and other reasonable criteria, but, for the most part, homeowners who buy a home in a California development, have a legal right to own at least one pet. Code §4715, which establishes the right of all members to keep at least one pet. Interestingly, though, the California legislature did not like the decision. Lakeside Village , 8 Cal.4th 361 (1994).įor the most part, state courts throughout the country agree with the California court’s Nahrstedt decision and enforce blanket pet prohibitions as long as validly adopted. In sustaining a total prohibition on all pets, the California Supreme Court held that as long as a restriction does not violate public policy, is not “wholly arbitrary,” and does not impose a burden on members greatly outweighing the projected benefits it should be enforced. ![]() These more stringent restrictions are frequently challenged and, for the most part, have been upheld in court. However, due to the nature of certain communities, some associations (most commonly in condominiums) have adopted blanket prohibitions on all pets. ![]() 4/23/2024 0 Comments Cool logo backgrounds![]() ![]() Tesla This now-iconic logo is more than a modern T, via Wikimedia Commons It’s on their packaging, uniforms, physical buildings, adverts-any type of communication that involve McDonald’s, involve this logo. In a right triangle with cathetus a and b and with hypotenuse c, Pythagoras' theorem states that: a² + b² = c². The hypotenuse is opposite the right angle and can be solved by using the Pythagorean theorem. However, we would also recommend using the dedicated tool we have developed at Omni Calculators: the hypotenuse calculator. Like the 30°-60°-90° triangle, knowing one side length allows you to determine the lengths of the other sides of a 45°-45°-90° triangle.Ĥ5°-45°-90° triangles can be used to evaluate trigonometric functions for multiples of π/4.If all you want to calculate is the hypotenuse of a right triangle, this page and its right triangle calculator will work just fine. ![]() The 45°-45°-90° triangle, also referred to as an isosceles right triangle, since it has two sides of equal lengths, is a right triangle in which the sides corresponding to the angles, 45°-45°-90°, follow a ratio of 1:1:√ 2. This type of triangle can be used to evaluate trigonometric functions for multiples of π/6. Then using the known ratios of the sides of this special type of triangle: a =Īs can be seen from the above, knowing just one side of a 30°-60°-90° triangle enables you to determine the length of any of the other sides relatively easily. For example, given that the side corresponding to the 60° angle is 5, let a be the length of the side corresponding to the 30° angle, b be the length of the 60° side, and c be the length of the 90° side.: Thus, in this type of triangle, if the length of one side and the side's corresponding angle is known, the length of the other sides can be determined using the above ratio. In this type of right triangle, the sides corresponding to the angles 30°-60°-90° follow a ratio of 1:√ 3:2. The 30°-60°-90° refers to the angle measurements in degrees of this type of special right triangle. The perimeter is the sum of the three sides of the triangle and the area can be determined using the following equation: A = Examples include: 3, 4, 5 5, 12, 13 8, 15, 17, etc.Īrea and perimeter of a right triangle are calculated in the same way as any other triangle. In a triangle of this type, the lengths of the three sides are collectively known as a Pythagorean triple. If all three sides of a right triangle have lengths that are integers, it is known as a Pythagorean triangle. ![]() The altitude divides the original triangle into two smaller, similar triangles that are also similar to the original triangle. h refers to the altitude of the triangle, which is the length from the vertex of the right angle of the triangle to the hypotenuse of the triangle. In this calculator, the Greek symbols α (alpha) and β (beta) are used for the unknown angle measures. Their angles are also typically referred to using the capitalized letter corresponding to the side length: angle A for side a, angle B for side b, and angle C (for a right triangle this will be 90°) for side c, as shown below. The sides of a right triangle are commonly referred to with the variables a, b, and c, where c is the hypotenuse and a and b are the lengths of the shorter sides.
